Book Review (Series One)

Good Morning!! For about six months I’ve been writing book reviews for O.B.C (online book club) and now I will also be writing my own personal book reviews on my favorite novels. From the beginning of the year to now I have read about eight books! Today, I will be reviewing four of them (I’ll review the other four later this week).

Gentleman Sinner is Jodi Ellen Malpas’ newest book that came out at the beginning of this year.

This exhilarating story is about the powerful connection between Izzy White and Theo Kane. Izzy White is a nurse who diligently cares for all her patients, but she is secretly a woman who is struggling with her past. Theo Kane is a powerful, intimidating, and respectable man. Theo Kane is feared and respected above any other, but he too has an awful past that seems to follow him. One night, Izzy hears a woman in distress and goes to her aid. In the process, she is attacked by a sleazy, drunk man. Her past horrors flash through her mind and fear grips her until her attacker is pulled off her. Theo Kane appears and there is an instant connection between them. Izzy knows she should fear this man but she doesn’t. Izzy White tries to fight off her feelings but Theo won’t let her, because he too has never felt this way about another. As Theo pursues her and Izzy succumbs to her feelings will their past destroy them? Will their secrets bring back past enemies? Jodi Ellen Malpas takes readers on a mesmerizing ride through the life of Theo Kane and Izzy White.

I truly love all of Jodi Ellen Malpas’ books and this one definitely falls onto the top of the list. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves sensual novels. It will definitely leave you wanting more.

Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty is invigorating, suspenseful, and will keep you on your toes. There are three main characters who all face their own struggles, but somehow find their way to one another. Jane is a young single mother who has had a painful past that she can’t seem to get over. Madeline is a wife and mother who has to deal with her ex-husband and his overly nice wife. As she deals with her unresolved anger toward her ex-husband she also has to deal with her overly passionate teenage daughter (the daughter she had with her ex-husband). Then there is Celeste who is a rich housewife that takes care of her twin boys. Celeste and Perry seem to have the perfect marriage, but no one knows that violence controls their lives. Celeste, Madeline, and Jane all have a child in the same kindergarten class. As their friendship grows, their personal life slowly crumbles. On top of that, the kindergarten parents soon seem to be at war with one another, which only draws Celeste, Jane, and Madeline closer to one another. On the night of parents trivia night, ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE. Parents are fighting, there is no order, and then a murder happens. So, this does these three women have anything to do with the murder? How did it lead to murder in the first place? Liane Moriarty takes readers on a thrilling ride that will leave you on the edge of your seat.

This is the first book I read by Liane Moriarty and it definitely did not disappoint. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good suspenseful story and mystery wrapped in between. You’ll be guessing the ending throughout the entire book, but trust me you’ll be shocked at the outcome.

Losing It by Cora Carmack is the first of three in the Losing It series. Cora Carmack has created Losing It as the foundation for the other two. Bliss Edwards is going to school for acting with her two best friends Kelsey and Cade. Losing It starts with Bliss Edwards who decides that she is sick of being the only virgin in her group and decides that she is going to have a one-night stand. She goes out and spots a handsome guy, but later that night she runs out on him. The next day she arrives at her class for her last semester and suddenly spots the man she left in her bed. Her new professor is that man and she now feels sick to her stomach. Her professor spots her as he starts introducing himself to the class. Before class, Bliss allowed her friends to believe that she slept with him, but that clearly isn’t true. Now, Bliss has to participate in his class for the next five months. Will she be able to keep her secret from everyone? Will this professor/student relationship turn into something more? Cora Carmack creates a story that captures love surviving beyond the barriers placed before it.

For me personally, Losing It was a light read and is absolutely a perfect option for a relaxing day on the beach or on your couch. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who is just looking for a fun read that will leave you wanting to learn more about the characters and their relationships.

Faking It by Cora Carmack is the second installment of the Losing It series. In the first installment [Losing It] readers are introduced to Bliss and her two best friends Cade and Kelsey. Faking It dives into the life of Cade Winston. Cade Winston has been best friends with Bliss for years but once he started becoming serious about life, he started to develop feelings for her. Bliss was torn because she did love Cade, but not necessarily in that way. Bliss was with Garrick and that caused Cade and Bliss’ friendship to drift. As Bliss and Garrick’s relationship progressed Cade became more lost… well, until he met Max. Max Miller whose actual name is Mackenzie Miller has been struggling with the pain of losing her sister for years. She has dated guys she knows her parents won’t approve of and picked a career in music…a career her parents do not understand. Max is at a coffee shop with her current boyfriend Mace when she gets a call from her parents that they are in town to visit. Her real life is about to come crashing down. Max now needs to create the life her parents think she’s living. She spots Cade in a booth and believes he looks like a suitable “boyfriend” to please her parents. When Max comes up to him with this idea he becomes quickly on board. As they create this fake relationship everything seems to change. A fake relationship that is only supposed to last a weekend ends up lasting longer. Will Cade and Max be able to trick her parents? What will happen to Max and Mace? Will Max ever grow the confidence to show her true self to her parents? The second installment of the Losing It series captures readers with a story that contains so many secrets. Faking It portrays a story of someone who must find themselves in order to truly be happy.

I really liked Faking It, especially because of how in-depth Cora Carmack went with the characters and their pasts. You will find yourself relating to the characters quickly on in the novel. This is another fun read that I believe will be great for those who want to continue observing the lives of the characters from the first installment in this series.

Now, I am currently reading Finding It by Cora Carmack which is the third installment of the Losing It series. Finding It will dive into the life of Kelsey who is Bliss’ other best friend. So, stay tuned for next reviews that will contain one of my all time favorite series and I will update this post with my review on Finding It.

I just finished reading Finding It by Cora Carmack and oh my it was amazing. The last installment of the Losing It series focuses on Kelsey Summers. Kelsey is Bliss’ best friend from college who decides to go across the world in order to find herself. Kelsey has always felt lost and decided to travel to Europe after college in hopes of finding her passion. On her trip, she traveled to multiple places hopping from bar to bar and meeting random people. Her whole life she sought love from her parents but never received it. Now she is looking for love from all the wrong people until she meets Jackson Hunt. Jackson Hunt is unlike any other guy she sought after and the feelings she has for him scares her. As their relationship unravels and truths come out Kelsey is unsure of her future with Jackson and her future as a whole. Will Jackson save Kelsey from her pain? Will Kelsey and Jackson survive the struggles that surface after they meet? Finding It focuses on a girl who is seeking love after she doesn’t receive it from the most important people in her life.

I highly recommend Finding It and the entire Losing It series by Cora Carmack. This series is a perfect summer read and you’ll find yourself relating to all the characters and their struggles.
